Level 3 – Chenin Blanc time

Happy Friday!

A beautiful warm sunny day at Holden Manz today with the mercury creeping to 26C after a series of nights when the temperatures have dropped close to zero!  It’s not all beautiful days though we have a cold front coming through on Saturday and Sunday which will keep up the water levels in the vineyard.

Well the great one spoke at length this week but with little substance.

Many illogical items – why open restaurants when your customers can’t buy a glass of wine to enjoy with their meal – but they can buy a bottle of wine to take away as long as it is between 9 and 5 on Monday to Thursday (Just as long as it is not public holiday!) – peak hours for many restaurants of course.

Accommodation can open but no inter-provincial travel and the international borders remain stubbornly closed so who is going to come and stay?  The consensus at our recent Franschhoek Wine Valley meeting was that accommodation In Franschhoek won’t open much before October – so many more months of our employees remaining laid off.  Businesses in Franschhoek are taking a battering with at least a dozen having closed down. No doubt others will fill their place in due course as landlords adjust rental values to the new normal.

Onto more fun things we celebrated the 11th birthday of our French born Vizhla Jakob yesterday – we got a picture from Paris of his mum who is 15!

Tomorrow is Drink Chenin Day and to mark this we are launching our inaugural vintage of Holden Manz Chenin Blanc Reserve 2019.

Made from grapes produced by bush vines registered under the Old Vine Project the grapes are wild fermented, 20% in French oak barrels and matured for 12 months on the lees.

Normal price is R350 per bottle but as a special introduction we offer a reduction of 20% so R280 per bottle.  Minimum of 6 bottles. SA only. Valid until midnight on Saturday 20th June with code CHENINRESERVE Buy Now!

Saturday night sees the Winter Solstice between 2145 and 2345 so the days are going to start getting that little bit longer and the sun setting just that bit closer to rosé time!

Sunday 21st June brings us Fathers’ Day.  We announced two specials for Fathers’ Day in last week’s newsletter. They have been popular this week but still have a few mixed cases available.  Buy here

Wishing you a great weekend.  Don’t forget to post shots of you drinking Holden Manz Chenin
